...good for you. This is a true success story. Even with all the difficulties in our industry as more and more people exit the mortgage world I find more opportunity and the phone doesn't stop ringing. Its three times harder to close a loan, and the income is half the amount of what it was a few years ago. However I'm closing between 10-15 loans per month and the reason is due to lack of competition. Usually borrowers are hounding me for a loan and I cant keep up with all the requests. Your story is great hear, others on the board need to make sacrifices to once again find a new career path.

These 73 Companies Won't Hire You If You Don't Have A Job
"by Robert Johnson
Unemployed workers continue to be excluded from job openings in online postings and a report released yesterday by the National Employment Law Project hopes to create federal legislature to stop it.
“Unemployed job seekers continue to be excluded from work opportunities, and this disturbing and unfair practice appears to be more pervasive than previously thought,” said Christine Owens, executive director of the National Employment Law Project.
“This practice is a perverse catch-22 that requires workers to have jobs in order to get jobs, and it means highly qualified, experienced workers who want and need work can’t get past the starting gate in the application process simply because they lost their jobs through no fault of their own,” Owens continued. “As a business practice, this makes no sense. It is debilitating to workers—particularly the long-term unemployed—and it hampers economic recovery.”"

The Secrets To Getting A Job When You Are Unemployed

The Secrets To Getting A Job When You Are Unemployed
Patricia Laya | Jul. 21, 2011, 10:51 AM

"Getting a job today is hard enough. Getting one with months-long gaps in your resume is even harder, especially with more and more employers excluding unemployed workers.
The National Employment Law Project calls it "a perverse catch-22": requiring workers to have jobs in order to get jobs.
But you shouldn't lose hope.
"Good hiring managers understand that the economy is terrible, and that it's been particularly hard for recent grads," hiring manager Alison Green told us. "You want to be able to talk about what you've been doing with that time.""

Help-Wanted Sign Comes With Frustrating Asterisk
By: Catherine Rampell
The New York Times

"The unemployed need not apply.

That is the message being broadcast by many of the nation’s employers, making it even more difficult for 14 million jobless Americans to get back to work.

A recent review of job vacancy postings on popular sites like Monster.com, CareerBuilder and Craigslist revealed hundreds that said employers would consider (or at least “strongly prefer”) only people currently employed or just recently laid off.

Unemployed workers have long suspected that the gaping holes on their résumés left them less attractive to employers. But with the country in the worst jobs crisis since the Great Depression, many had hoped employers would be more forgiving. ..."

Another job posting pretty much requiring recent experience going back 3 years! Back 3 yrs b/c they know there are people who have been UE for that long that ARE qualified but are being sidelined but corporations insane hiring policies!

"...Full-time, Direct Hire, Salary range is $40,000 - $43,000. This position is the Branch Operations Officer for a community bank, reports directly to the Branch Manager. Must have a minimum of three years recent experience as an Operations Officer / Customer Service Manager and have a thorough understanding of Bank Compliance Regulations. Staff size is less than 8 employees so position requires that you have hands on experience in all phases of bank operations and new accounts."

I think you are reaching on this one. Banking and especially regulations and compliance issues have changed a lot in the last three years. I don't think it is wrong for them to advertise for relevant experience.

Have to see the details, but I find the biggest problem to employment is the "entitlement" people feel they have. Many cannot come to grips that their lifestyle that they previously had is gone, and maybe forever. I AM NOT only talking about mortgage professionals. It is across the board. Yes you may have been paid $90,000 at your job before, but now the only job you can get pays $50,000 or maybe its a sales job on commission. People just don't want to accept that.

I know of a couple who lost their McMansion, went BK, no jobs, no income, starting over and ended up "renting" a big huge house for $3K a month!!!..STUPID( I give it 1 year before they move in with family)..if you don't have an income, starting over and living off savings, forget the McMansion and get a everyday home for $1000-1500 a month till you figure out how to get back on your feet(we have nice homes in great communitites for that price in my area). Problem for them, "denial" and having to "put on a show" for the imaginery people who are watching them! I see the same thing everywhere...There are jobs here..but some people think they are too good for them...

When I went through a crisis 15 years ago..(illness)..I downsized, cut my expenses(got rid of car payments, debt etc) and it was the best thing I ever did and prepared me for any storm I may face ahead...I then worked my way back up to where I wanted to be..but with no debt..

too many people don't want to accept that route..The Party is Over..everyone Get OUT!
