Career Changes? What else Can We do?
PostPosted: Tue Sep 08, 2009 2:38 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

I finally decided I want a change, a real change. I invite anyone who has made a successful career change and can offer advice to comment. Or like myself if anyone has a question that perhaps someone else on Implode can contribute an answer.

We need to pull our heads together and come up with solutions, as the job market has stalled again. We know we are valuable!!!

I was actually thinking about a hot dog cart...don't laugh. They seem to make some pretty good cash and you are your own boss. Not to mention all the hot dogs you would care to eat. You can buy a cart for a few thousand bucks and the rest is location location location.... I know a few brokers that need to pinch pennies...I think I will start there.

my dad sold a gold/futures product in the 80's when the stock market was blown and the world was coming to an end.

they stormed.

if I was in L.A. I'd scoot over to their office and demand a desk - I suspect their phones are ringing.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY-

More than half the brokers I know are selling insurance...health, auto, home and LIFE. Life insurance seems to be a favorite. I'm being solicited several times a week to start pushing insurance. What do you guys think?

I have been wondering the same thing. What else can we do? After so many years are we out of luck?

I know I live in a bit of a bubble since TX has not been hit as hard as others, but think about what you said, "half the brokers are selling insurance" Another way to see it is "Half my competetion has gone away!"

Insurance is a great career, but takes a long, long time to build up the recurring revenue. There must be some sort of mortgage market within your telephone's reach. We have re-directed our corporate relocation efforts towards the first time home buyer and are up 30% in purchase business over the last year. The tax credit is definately having an effect and we expect it to continue through 2010.

I have been making 15-25 telemarketing calls to first time home buyers a day with tremendous success. Give it a try!

sort of scary for my friends right now.........many got into insurance (same kind of people skill) but the regulators ( Laughing ) are becoming a little nervous that all the people they think screwed banking are now going to insurance and they are paying attention - friends in that industry say.

My thoughts are that the same h**l that took away the first job is following to the second. I have friends staying in the trenches in mortgages but they can't count on their money at all, not rates or things that are real life, but hey will the LENDER COVER THE CHECK............things that are reputation busters if they go wrong AND WERE NEVER A WORRY TWO YEARS AGO.

I love the hot dog or anything CASH because if you are on paper, and I always have been,

heck the government got their piece of my check before I DID,

well if you are out there and doing great THEY ARE GOING TO START STEALING IT.

Someone said they didn't think taxes would blow, THE GOVERNMENT IS BROKE AND THERE IS ONLY ONE PLACE THEY GET THEIR MONEY

FROM YOU, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY YOU PAY OUT THE ------ FOR THE GOVERNMENT WHEN THEY ARE BROKE

THEY ARE BROKE

SO insurance is just starting to feel our pain because when you peel the onion THEY ARE ALL BUILT ON THE SAME SAND BASE WE WERE............

when there is no money to insure, THEY DON'T NEED SALESMEN..............

and another trillion into AIG and maybe a couple more insurance companies and LIKE MORTGAGES

GOVERNMENT WILL BE WRITING THE INSURANCE (WHICH HAS BEEN WHAT HUSSAIN OBLABLA HAS BEEN TRYING TO STRONG ARM YOU INTO DOING FOR ABOUT 9 MONTHS NOW,

THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

So spending all that time and energy going lateral into insurance was scary to me.........the lenders are going to fall even more, did you see that story on the site last week - 86% of the mortgages are now tied to the government directly as opposed to 25% only 2 years ago..........ouch...........

insurance is next.......I am afraid..............

necessities are the place to be, THINGS PEOPLE CAN'T DO WITHOUT - THINGS THAT CAN'T BE DONE BY A COMPUTER.............

and FOOD AND GAS AND SHELTER COME WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BEFORE INSURANCE, WAY WAY BEFORE.............

The federal government has already given you the answer, 'Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms'.....
