Shorting opportunities?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 12, 2007 11:25 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

The list on the implode-meter site is looking pretty thin nowadays. Are there any good shorting opportunities left? Countrywide seems to have some potential downside still, although its already down a lot from last month. Any others?

I think people really need to start focusing on the Alt-A lenders for short plays. Might be helpful to have a list of the biggest Alt-A lenders as well...you will get a slightly different list than the subprime list.

I like FED as the best short candidate in Alt-A. Book value is somewhere around the low 40's, but might be lower because of 'phantom income' (unpaid negam interest booked as received). This unpaid interest is now beginning to exceed the company's pretax income. BKUNA might be another play but its value is not as rich as FED.
