What Is the Onion?
PostPosted: Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:20 am Reply with quoteBack to top

I'm too old to know for sure, but this chat show clip is apparently from the Onion, which I presume is a comedy show like the Daily Show. It certainly was well acted.

As to Chris Dodd, when he was on stage with the Democratic nominees in the debates, I thought to myself, this guy is not playing on the A levels. I would certainly be less than thrilled to have him as my Senator because he has no polish. Yes, he's Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, but he's no John F. Kennedy.

One comment made on the site where the Onion's chat show clip was posted rings true: Angelo Mozillo's staff probably slipped something in the loan file or in the loan documents to use as leverage against Senator Dodd at a later time. Dodd comes off as dumb enough not to realize that could happen. Ethically, he should have obtained his mortgage from an entity not regulated by his committee. Dodd does not come off as so dumb that the ethical conflict would go over his head.

So maybe Chris Dodd is really smarter than I think, a shuffle along play it like a nice dumb white guy politician, when in reality he's a brilliant predator in disguise.

Time will tell...but I think he's off the potential VP candidate list.
